Winter break is the perfect time to hit the slopes, and this Aggie Gear Guide has the perfect recommendation. Freshman Outdoor Product Design student Leif Lofgren recommends the 2013 JJ Armada backcountry skis with Dynafit bindings for this year’s ski season.
“[They’re] super lightweight for long tours, and really deliver in downhill performance as well. The setup is not very expensive and is versatile for inbound, and backcountry skiing alike.”
While these skis are no longer in production, the Armada brand is a good go-to for high-quality skis. The price ranges from $400 to $900 but they provide gear for all types of snowbound adventures, from backcountry to cross country. While the combination of Armada skis and Dynafit bindings are on the expensive side, they worth the bucks.
“On a backcountry hike, I was traversing across a steep foothill, and the whole hill broke, and started an avalanche. Thankfully I was only sucked in up to my chest, and my skis were pushed to the top, and I was able to get back home alive. So the gear is definitely really hardy and can be abused a lot.”
