Logan’s snowy months are just around the corner. This means for snowboarders it’s time to start preparations for those long days on the mountain. Senior Outdoor Product Design and Development student Makell Richins recommends the Salomon Gypsy snowboard for this season.
“It has the perfect amount of flex, it’s easy to control, is fun in the park, and of course the graphics are rad,” Richins said. “It’s technically a park board but I use it for all around the mountain, and it is killer. The only thing it does not crush is powder. You can ride pow, but it just is not quite as good as my board that is specifically for powder.”
The 2019 Salomon Gypsy snowboard is shaped for freestyling, with a combination of rocker, camber and flat profiles to increase maneuverability. This board has won multiple TransWorld Snowboarding Good Wood awards for design and performance, according to Salomon’s website. You can purchase this board from REI, Backcountry, The House, and Saloman.
“[Before the Salomon snowboard] I had never had my own board, I always had hand-me-downs,” Richins said. “But once I was in college, I finally got my own. Riding on my new board was amazing. It was so flexible, turning was so much easier, and the board felt amazing underneath my feet. My old board, that was who knows how old, was the complete opposite of all those things. That board became my favorite instantly. Love at first ride.”
